What Is Responsible Fatherhood?

Being a father isn't easy, especially if you are struggling to make ends meet, or are separated from the child's mother. If you became a father at a young age, perhaps still attending school or college, fatherhood can be challenging too.

The concept of responsible fatherhood began to take shape in the 1980s and 90s, with various organizations working to help fathers raise their kids responsibly. Most of us know instinctively what the qualities are that makes a great father, which include providing for your child financially, spending time with your child, and generally ensuring they are educated, have enough to eat, and have adequate health care.

However, for many working fathers, the biggest challenge they face may be that of trying to spend enough quality time with their children. If this sounds like you, there are steps you can take to make sure you spend time together as a family, although if you are a father feeling overwhelmed with everything expected of you, you can find helpful classes, workshops and books.
